Keratin.
Keratin is found in the hair, nails, and skin. It protects cells from damage and provides flexibility in the skin. The protein protects underneath cells from dying out and guards against infection. Harder keratin is found in nails and hair. The outer layer called the Epidermis has Keratinocytes that produce Keratin. Every 35 to 45 days a new epidermis is created, millions of dry dead cells that contain soft keratin flake of the skin daily.
