Wrinkles Be Gone!

One way to diminish wrinkles is to get injectables. There are two major types of cosmetic injections used for wrinkle treatment, injectable muscle relaxants and injectable dermal fillers. Injectable muscle relaxants are used to relax the wrinkle-causing muscles that cause people to frown or squint. Meaning, the cosmetic injections gradually smooth wrinkles and prevent wrinkles from forming again. After you get the injection it takes two to three days to see an effect, but seven days in total to see the full effect. It may take up to four months to go through all the treatments. The dermal filler is injected under the wrinkle to fill it in or plump it up. Treatments last up to six months. Another way to diminish wrinkles is to get a chemical peel. A chemical peel is put on the skin and it peels away old skin and new skin is underneath. This is for just fine lines and aging spots.

Is It Possible To Prevent Wrinkles?

Many people wonder if wrinkle prevention is possible, and truth is, it can be if you choose to take care of your skin. The steps to wrinkle-free skin include:
1. Refrain from using tanning beds and don't sunbathe for long periods of time. Exposure to too much sunlight can easily damage your skin.
2. When going out doors, always make sure that you wear SPF sunscreen or moisturizer, no matter what the climate may be. You should always choose a moisturizer that contains UVA or UVB protection. It's better to be safe than sorry.
3. Eat healthy and stop dieting. If you find yourself being involved in many poor diets, they could result in dull, lifeless skin. What some people don't know is that weight loss can be the cause of premature aging and the onset of wrinkles.
4. Avoid smoking cigarettes. Smoke from cigarettes contributes to fine lines and wrinkles. Even if you do not smoke, being around or in cigarette smoke still exposes your skin to the smoke. Try your best not to hang around smoky environments.

What Causes Human Beings To Get Unwanted Wrinkles?

As humans begin to grow older, their skin cells start to divide more slowly, and the dermis begins to thin. Wrinkles develop as we get older because substances like collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid decrease with age. All of these substances provide the skin with structure. Another reason why human beings begin to develop wrinkles is because the skin's ability to preserve moisture diminishes, causing the sweat and oil-secreting glands to worsen. This results in the skin becoming dry and scaly. The skin then loses it's elasticity, and instead of going back to it's normal form, it sags and forms wrinkles. However, this is not the only way wrinkles are caused. Wrinkles can also be caused by too much exposure to ultraviolet radiation and smoking cigarettes.

Process of Keratinization & Function of Epidermis

The Process of keratinization takes up to 28 days. As you get older, the process takes longer. When the process slows down, the skin holds on to dead skin cells, which is why when you look at someone they appear to look older.

The epidermis is the skin's outer structure serving as a protective function. The part you can see, the horny layer, is the ultimate result of the keratinisation process and the final stage of a 4 to 6 week journey taken by the keratinocytes.

The Acidic Mantle! :)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The acid mantle is a mixture of Sweat and Sebum on the surface of the skin. Skins normal pH is about 4 to 5.5, this mixture which is acidic is called acid mantle.

The acid mantle protects the skin from bacteria. If you strip the skin of its acidic mantle by using strong alkaline soaps or cleansers, bacteria will find it easy to attack the skin. Removing the acid mantle disturbs the distribution of dead cells on top of the epidermis. This is called stratum corneum.

The skin is a miracle. These dead cells if allowed to accumulate will make the skin look very bad, but if completely removed, the skin is left defenseless to an extent. We have to keep a fine balance in maintenance of the skin.

Tissues and Functions of the Epidermis

The epidermis serves 3 main functions. The first function is to protect the body from the environment, especially the sun. The second function is preventing the body from excessive water loss. The last function of the epidermis is to protect the body from infection.

The epidermis is made up of 5 cell layers. The stratum corneum, stratum lucidum, stratum granulosum, stratum spinosum, and stratum basale. The stratum corneum is the outermost layer of the epidermis. It's function is to form a barrier to protect underlying tissues. The stratum lucidum is found only in areas of thick skin and is compose of 3-5 layers of keratinocytes. The stratum granulosum is made up of a thin layer of cells which contain keratohyalin granules, or protein structures. The stratum spinosum is where keratinization begins. And finally, the stratum basale is the deepest layer of the 5 layers and it consists of continuous layers of cells.

Keratin.

Keratin is found in the hair, nails, and skin. It protects cells from damage and provides flexibility in the skin. The protein protects underneath cells from dying out and guards against infection. Harder keratin is found in nails and hair. The outer layer called the Epidermis has Keratinocytes that produce Keratin. Every 35 to 45 days a new epidermis is created, millions of dry dead cells that contain soft keratin flake of the skin daily.
